Parents are not responsible for their children - Social Services and society are. That is the message being sent out when Judge Joan\ Butler QC sentenced the parents of 8yr old Charlotte Avenall to 6months in prison (effectiveness of the 1 yr actual tariff).
Charlotte had hanged herself in the room she had been locked up in for 12 hours a day. "The walls were smeared with excrement and the girl had been forced to usea chest of drawwers as a loo." Her dehydrated bodyy was riddled with lice, her fingernails were overgrown and she hd no bedclothes to sleep in. (The Independent 10th April).
What would have happened if she had been in a care home or foster parents and had been subjected to this treatment?
