On Your Bike!

Norman Baker, Liberal Democrat MP for Lewes, revealed in The Sunday Times (24th May 09) that the Fees office would not let him buy a bicycle from his allowance, hence cutting travel costs and being environmentally friendly, but they would let him buy a luxury brand opf furniture made by Cameron's mother-in-law; as a number of MP's have.

Over the weekend it became quite clear from my supporters that tinkering with the expenses was not enough; a radical change was required.

Whilst not pretending to be comprehensive some of the rules below were suggested and are in line with the Government's rules for Civil Servants and Public Sector workers.

  1. The Workbase is the constituency office/home.
  2. Travel claims to visit the House of Commons may be claimed using public Transport or at 40p per mile.
  3. MP's outside the Greater London Area may claim for hotels or apply for second home facilities.
  4. All out-of-pocket expenses may be claimed for monthly with VAT Receipts.
  5. Any hotel booking will be done through contracted hotels at contracted rates.

If you have any rules you would like to add then put them in the comments box.
