The Truth, whole truth and nothing but!

The Truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth is not the "service to its readers that the media claim to offer.

Take the Daily Mail article (Bloated state gets 23,000 more staff, December 17th). Few readers will go beynd the title but, if they did, they would note that these figures are fueled by the state ownership of Lloyds and Royal Bank of Scotland.

They quote David Frost (Director General, British Chamber of Commerce) "It is now time for the public sector to step up ensuring thatvits pay settlements reflect conditions in the real world." I did not hear the Chamber say this when public sector pay rises were being held at 1-3% when private sector rates were double this.

At least the Mail noted that only 20% of us work in the public sector and unwittingly revealed that, without the increase in public sector employment, unemployment would be 290,000 higher.

I spent half my working in the private sector. Had I stayed there I would be earning more than I am now. A Senior Lecturer at University used to earn a similar salary to what I earned in private sector and now earns similar payto that of Senior Cabin Crew at British Airways.

Instead of complaining about each other we should be working together as one cannot live well without the other.
