Copenhagen, Easyjet and Global Warming

I am flying Easyjet to Gran Caneria reading about the conference on global warming.

There has been a lot of bad publicity about the emissions from aeroplanes and it is often related to Heathrow's third runway.

Nobody seems to count the emissions cost of freedom and choice.

Giving parents the choice to choose school vastly increases the emissions of taking children to school and the traffic queues caused by this freedom.

If we had a decent transport policy based on travel time this could encourage people to reduce their car mileage.

It seems that people accept a one hour journey to work. One can walk up to 3 miles in an hour so we should encourage the building of business premises within this distance of major conurbations. Buses and bicycle paths could support this. Bus routes taking an hour can cover 30 miles so these could be the primary form of travel for this distance and would link to train stations for 70 mile journey and high speed rail links for 150 mile journeys leaving airlines for journeys greater than 150 miles.
