Sir Terry Leahy, retired Tesco boss is suggesting that tuition fees and educational standards are linked. Furthermore, that people from poor backgrounds like him are no worse off ( The Independent, 2nd June).
I am sure the poor people who were hoping to do a part-time degree in September will agree when they see that prices have doubled, if not trebled.
The students may be paying more but the Universities are not getting more money. It is coming from the students instead of the government.
Is this another case of the poor who get rich forget their roots and think that because they were successful, the rest will be. I wonder what Jack Cohen (Tesco founder) would think.
In business the concept is competition drives prices down and quality up, so why is it the opposite for education.
